Camino Crafts - word clouds

Word clouds make a great (and quick, cheap and easy!) gift for someone and it is easy to do these on the internet using a site such as http://www.tagxedo.com . Others are available but I've used this one before and so thought I would use it for examples.

You use the 'load' button to put on words that you want (maybe places you'll be walking through and the name/s of who will be walking/cycling/riding) then can change the shape under the options heading to be 'Camino-y' or you can load one of your own images instead.

As is the star (this was done using the same words as for the foot and took about 30 seconds to change between the two so if more than one person is walking you can do different versions but use the same words) - from http://www.tagxedo.com

Here I found a picture of a way marker, saved it to my file and then loaded it onto the site (under 'shape' and then 'add image') - from http://www.tagxedo.com

These images can then be saved by using the 'save/share' button - I saved them as JPEG files and printed these at home (the images you produce are fine for personnel use but you can't sell them - check out the site's FAQ section is you want more info on this).

The site will print your image onto t-shirt, mugs and bags for you to buy. I haven't used this service ever so can't say how good it is, I've just printed the images straight out for myself - the results do look pretty cool.

The Camino Primitivo

The Camino Primitivo (or the Original Way) is reportedly the very first Camino Way to Santiago in the 9 th century when most of Spain was under the control of the Moors and it runs from near the city of Ovideo in Asturias as it starts in Villavicosa (which also lies on the Camino Norte so many people follow this Way from Basque city of San Sebastian (Donosti in Basque) or in from the French border at Irun ( this route then hugs the Bay of Biscay passing through Guernica, Bilbao, Santander, Llanes before going under the Picos de Europa and then heads along the coast to Ovideo) before branching off onto the Primitivo which goes across the mountains and through the city of Lugo before joining the Frances at Melide. Symbols of the three main Christian Pilgrimages

The symbol of the Pilgrim to Santiago is the Scallop shell of which many can be found on the coast of Galicia and it is actually a symbol of the Pilgrimage (and has become a symbol of other Christian Pilgrimages too) partly because you could find the shell easily there and so could go back home and show it off as proof that you had done the Pilgrimage. It has also been included in carvings in some Churches.

Camino Mascot
